That rot at the front of that chassis rear of the dumb irons isn't overly common quite that far back. My gut feeling is that this will be a patch job for now but start budgeting for a new chassis in the future. If you can change it/have it changed now then it wouldn't be an unwise decision, especially if you plan to keep it.
I need to do a bulkhead on mine and the chassis has had a few patches so I am thinking of doing chassis and bulkhead at the same time. Already have a galv bulkhead replacement and new doors so once I get the chassis the rebuild can begin.
XD Chassis are getting some good reviews too these days. I went to see a couple at a place local to me that fits them and am quite tempted to go that way especially as they offered to add one to one of their orders so i wouldn't need to pay shipping!

Have changed that cross member with body still on, we had taken the floor out, (pop rivets) and take the triangle section off the body, again on ours we had to remove rear seat and box, as the seat box had corroded. But almost certain you can get to it, by cutting in half and sliding out through the triangle panels on the side of the body, I used YRM part https://yrmit.co.uk/product/110-mid-crossmember-hdg-pre-2007-lr-defender/ I used YRM for other parts such as kick plate front floor section, etc YRM have a fairly good workshop video of a lot of things.The problematic part to the corrosion is that the station wagon floor mount cross member is utterly mince and the whole thing needs taking out and replacing. It's bolted in so that's a good start and the rail brackets are in good shape but sadly there's just no nice way to get that old one out and a new one in as it's totally blocked by the bodyworkI could cut a hole in the side and TIG it back together afterwards but that is a vomitworthy idea. Other than that it's splitting the body from the chassis either in part or entirely and, ugh, that doesn't seem fun. It /would/ give more room for working on the cross members so I just don't know. What's the removal and re-fitment procedure like from those that have done it?
Tooling is not an issue unless 'special' items are needed. Have multiple forklifts and skilled operators to lift it. If this is going ahead then I should get access to a four post lift as well.

You can replace it by cutting it in half and removing nothing but the exhaust and prop shaft , I made one last week , and wouldnt dream of disturbing that triangular panel , thats just asking for trouble. as mentioned I made the replacement section its only a simple top hat section. and before some one asks , no I dont have a 500 ton press brake ,,,,,,
but the boys next door that make shutters do ,,, a bag of buns works wonders , take an apple pie and they would fold a new land rover for you as a kit.

As usual it’s been a hectic time but I wanted to update on what’s been happening.
OH has spoken to Tracy who had given her the number of a local LR welding specialist. Her Mother’s friend had also heard about the LR failing its MOT and has passed on the number of the LR welding person who he used and was happy with.
Turns out it’s the same person
OH spoke to them today and they are coming round some time this week to scope the job. If they want to do it and the price is a goer then that’s how it’s happening. If not then it’s back in my court and I’ll finally have a use for all these irritating holiday days I have left to take before the end of the year
I’ll post back up when I know what’s happening in the next step

I had a cracker with Kwik Fit who I took the 110 to have some tyres balanced (had been swapped by someone who couldn't balance them when I sold him some wheels). They jacked up the rear before trying to crack off the wheel nuts.
Manager came in to tell me that my handbrake was broken, told them that's surprising because you MOTd it yesterday, and I'm not surprised the wheels rotated on the same axle with it being a prop brake and all... What's a prop brake? Proceeded to tell him and got the response "that's unusual, wasn't aware they did that, when did they start doing that?". Looked a bit stupid when I said 1948

I've had some good ones from there.
MOT failure: middle seats not secure - they were folded forwards
MOT failure: middle row seat belt anchor missing - it was under a dog towel

I've had comments along the lines of your rear radius arms are bent - precisely how Lancia meant them to be bent, yes
. . . but equally, they've let me rummage in their old exhaust pile for bits to make my own exhaust, in their stash of new brake bits to find something to fit an old banger, and done me some good deals on tyres.

I did have another garage come into the waiting room muttering under his breath about ****ing Land Rovers. As mine was the only one in for it's MOT I asked him why. He didn't have anything against Land Rovers but he said any other 4x4 that came in he had no issue with it on the lift. If it had a Land Rover badge it was 50/50 chance whether the cross-beam had enough travel in it to lift the wheels off the deck. He'd been requesting for 5 years from his boss to buy the extended arms for the cross-beam so that he could lift them to check bushes - and still hadn't received them. Any other 4x4 was fine, he'd always get the wheels off the deck but the LRs have so much suspension travel as standard it meant he had to get creative with blocks of wood etc to jack them up.

I wanted to update here with the final outcome of this.
The LR person turned up when they said they would, checked out the job and dropped in a quote. My OH has accepted the quote and is in the queue to be done.
Unfortunately the person is very busy and in demand so there’ll be a few weeks wait before they can commence work. The truck is on SORN to save the tax and all being good will be back on the road before the new year
