i do tow a horsebox with a 500kg pony, but it seems the fan comes on and off easily so i might try it, i have a cover fitted over the front of the rad during winter so i'll keep a good eye on the temp, the cover does have a roll up flap bit in the centre too.
fitted some 265-75-16 Toyo open country mt's today, old girl is looking rather good.

No airflow through the intercooler means lack of hp at the wheels. As stated the fan, even when 'out' still draws through the intercooler so if town driving or towing where you need the oomph to get going, it just doesn't happen.
I took it a step further and have an intercooler fan on the full width i/c in my Discovery. Very useful when towing and for low speeds such as offroading where you might need an extra squirt of power now and again. On road on an incline I switch the fan on as I approach and it definitely holds the speed better.

A viscous fan can use 8-15BHP. On removal of mine I noticed no loss in acceleration, if anything faster it was faster, more than likely because of the 8-15BHP increase.

I did note a reduction in Noise and fuel consumption.

when i first got my new intercooler, i stuck a hairdrier down one end and found that cool air come out the other, a good intercooler works well in a static position. (allardturbosport)

My viscous fans have made very little noise at all so I would suggest that if it made such a marked difference perhaps the hub was siezed. I had a 1600 Sierra and the fan locked on that which made an incredible difference to the already pathetic performance and noise level.

Nothing wrong with the fan. While you might think they don't make a lot of noise they do, anything moving air will make noise, and that power has to come from somewhere

Done a couple of hundred miles up hill and down dale since i disconnected mine, no towing yet though, with no problems and a constant normal temperature gauge reading, cant comment on the noise though cos the 265 mt's ive fitted are compensating for that next job is a steering box backlash adjusting session and the fitting of a return to centre steering damper.

Have you checked the bush in the hockey sticks, mine had Goodyear 285MRTs on a 3" lift. After 3.5k the steering was all over the place.

i just re bushed it with a polybush kit..

surely more than a fortnight though? will have to check em. then again i just remembered i havent done the panhard rod yet, would that make the steering all over the shop?

i just re bushed it with a polybush kit..

was it a genuine polybush or just a 2 peice bush kit
