Getting motivated is difficult at times.
I have heaps to do but some days it's a task to even think about doing anything. What I do is grab myself and throw myself out the door. Have a foul conversation with ya self. Come on...up ya get...make a brew...cart your self in the garage/shed and do something....avoid looking for excuses not to do something....and find something to do....

I'm have the opposite dilemma. I'd love to throw myself into completing the several nearly-finished projects I have but I'm on total rest duty. I had a really nasty chest infection a couple of weeks ago and I'm still not fully recovered. I have to re-start work on Wednesday so I've got to sit it out, let my chest clear and re-build my energy levels.

I've been bricking it this past fortnight that I might also catch this cv19 virus. It might have finished me off.

I had the lack of motivation thing last year - came back in March from a hectic 3 months in Finland to no work. Took it easy for a couple of weeks then found it very difficult to get motivated. By summer I had got nothing done and had become depressed. I pulled myself out with regular work and socialising. I don't have that now so will try to avoid the depression trap in the first place.

Beware falling into the motivation trap. It's easier to get going now than it will be next week. If you don't feel motivated try getting a job set up to go, then the next day start on the job before spending time on the internet or other distractions.

Sharing the work on the internet is a good motivator for me. On my house blog I add stuff and photos at the end of the day and it becomes a target to get something done to write about. Use the projects section here if you want even if it's a boring project.

Ive been doing a few odd jobs that came in but mostly sitting around tv on and laptop on , I'm starting to seize up , I need to get moving , the back is aching and my knees are not working , wife says i groan every time I get up ! Got some gates and railings to finish next week in the workshop should be ok !

I normally find that once I've got off my **** and gone out to the workshop I'm ok and can get one with something. Just occasionally though I go out there and within 20 minutes I have to admit defeat as I can't get into the groove!

I've long suffered from motivational deficit disorder*. Tidying and organising is generally what gets me back into the groove.

just sat in the house for the last 4 days watching the tv think im going to have to get my ass in to gear and get something done tomorrow as its not good when work picks up I wont want to go back

Set yourself the challenge of fixing one thing per day (hint make them small). That way at least you achieved something.

Write a list on a board / wall somewhere obvious and cross them out at you go through for some motivation. Don't rub them out because you can't see what you've achieved.

It can be simple things, for example one of mine was to figure out what the "cooker" wiring upstairs in the top floor flat was doing. Mind you that got a kick up the list because had an enquiry from the local vet as to whether it was usable for two locums who are coming in to help out with stuff. Being a farmining community and spring kicking off they're in quite high demand. Not the NHS but at least I can help out, once the new cooker, microwave etc arrive I can close off that bit of the house and they can self isolate. Just got to get a washing machine set up in a mid renovation cloakroom on the ground floor so they can use it. At least I don't have to cart that up three floors even if there is a lift part way!

I get them occasionally to. I have even gone out to the shed. Opened up....stood there for a minute looking at it all...and said bolx to it. Gone back in... then go back out half hour later...you have to keep your brain stimulated.

I made some brackets to hang my Ladders up yesterday first welding I've done for about 3 years, today the weather is bad so I'll be indoors, don't have a wood burner in this garage, like my old one

If I find myself lacking motivation to "physically" do things I get on something like fusion 360, better to learn something than to cabbage for the day.

Started last friday for me with the kids, yesterday was the first day it felt like a struggle

I've been playing with some radios, hopefully connect with some locals from home, I miss being high up

Was like that Friday. Took me 3 attempts looking in the shed door to get moving.
Tbh I was planning mybdays though.
I hate moving crap twice so wood from shed into garage. Can now tidy the shed and move all the bits I've dumped in the garage over winter into proper homes in the shed.
Monday use the timber I put in the garage to rack the final side in my van.
Then Tuesday I can get the garage in order

Have a couple of bits to turn for someone here and need to uncover the lathe.

Then I can finish rebuilding the L

I found having a telly, heating and the pooter in the cave helps, stops me feeling isolated and I can sneak on and off places like this for a minute or two at a time. In the cave extension I am fitting a sink and fridge so I dont have to go indoors for a brew or snack, I find going indoors knocks me out of gear.

You can set yourself up for failure that way. I prefer to not plan. Just potter and see what happens. Usually more than if I plan to do stuff. Maybe that’s just me.
