I've always said a gap year at 14 for a job would help people knuckle down and learn.not wrong, its completely different to when i was his age, personally dont think being in school until 18 helps.

This is what they teach now.I have a dunces hat for my 5,yo. Who knows what they've been teaching him at school but it's my mission to get him up to speed now. School is understaffed

Im actually not against phonics there is a proper reason behind it being that it teaches you to break down words making further reading easier, then progresses to teaching spelling
The reason i'm for phonics is it is very helpful to be able to break down the words, and encourages it during reading. im dyslexic and just remember words and im useless at breaking words down into component parts, fortunately im also stubborn so have learnt many varied words but my reading is purely visual

It's great for languages such as Welsh which are very phonetic but the fact is that English isn't as phonetic as many other languages so you have allow for that instead of dumbing it down.
Phonetic teaching is a direct result of diversity and I'm not saying that diversity is a bad thing just that we shouldn't allow it to dilute our teaching of proper English as a first language at school.
If no one it a faliure then logic would dictate that no one's a winner.Oh, you must burn that - they're taught [apparently] now that no-one is a failure.![]()

its actually not a new thing, its been around since the 80s my mrs studied psychology and it was of interest to her, its has some very sound reasoning behind it
They weren't teaching the alphabet as aaah, buuh, cuh, duh in the '80's.
don't become a tradesmen
I hear the phrase "the grass is not ALWAYS greener" and think it's so accurate. BUT the problem is it CAN be. Just not all of the time.I would quite happily become one!
Mainly been an office bod most of my life & its uninspiring
I don't think I would want to be self employed though as it sounds like long hours & sometimes stressful
No we were not teaching it correct, but the discussions behind it are not new it wasn't designed because of 'foreigners'
I know exactly what your saying. But sometimes you have to take a gamble in life, too many people dream, But never give things a go!I hear the phrase "the grass is not ALWAYS greener" and think it's so accurate. BUT the problem is it CAN be. Just not all of the time.
I shall remember thatThe grass is greener...where you water it![]()
