How do you propose harvesting a load of thermal energy at such short notice?

Massive steam turbine powered battery charger?? If there is such a thing (and there certainly will be) then we can do that anyway just by drilling a deep enough hole (which we probably also do anyway). But since a few cubic metres of molten lava is going to run that engine for a month, what do we do with the other millions if not billions of tons?

Best they can hope for is a moratorium on bonfires but, you know, this is in Spain...

(Grandmother/eggs warning) Totally, that's why passenger aircraft have weather radar, which shows Cu-Nims pictorially on a moving map display, and it is a vital part of the pilots' jobs to go around, not through them. Just like a ship captain must avoid rocks, the results might be disastrous in both cases.
In a small aircraft, your just along for the ride and better start praying. People have abandoned small planes in thunderclouds, opened their parachutes, and found themselves going vertically upwards at an amazing rate of knots...I am reasonably cool with sailing in fog, but I remember, 40 yrs later, the deep primeval terror when entering cloud in a little wooden glider..
