Going back to cylinder head skimming, isn't a 12" fly cutter massive? The last few cylinder heads I've had done have been done with a grinding stone, 'like' a bench grinder. I initially thought that tilting head might go to 90 degrees, but looking again I don't think it will. Couldn't you do numerous passes with a smaller fly cutter? Or is that just silly?
I meant the other way around, you can use 30int in r8 . Seen it with my own eyes as explained in a later post. Check machinery handbook for dims and you will see same taper.R8 is not compatible with int30
Morse are locking taper ints and R8 are not , though in practice they can and doSo similar to a MT, just a different format, or is it tapped at the top for a locking bolt?
I think the angles are slightly different from memory. Not a lot in it but....I meant the other way around, you can use 30int in r8 . Seen it with my own eyes as explained in a later post. Check machinery handbook for dims and you will see same taper.
If I hadn’t seen it myself I wouldn’t believe it either
I used to have a plough grinder if used for heads with proud hot spots. You can quite happily fly cut aluminium heads with a flycutter. I have a 2inch thick, 9 inch diameter single point flycutter on an int 40. The one thing I refuse to do are diesel heads with steel inserts.
The mill is an old FritzWerner, I think it was used to make bombers...
