Knockoff power tool batteries ?

I have been thinking of getting a couple extra batteries and after a bit of research the Flouron (as confirmed by @brightspark above) are what I will buy. But not hefty 5AH ones, 2AH are more than adequate for what I want and the bonus is they are not great heavy lumps when you are up a ladder. I have a couple genuine 5AH units.

I'm insulted lol.
Been putting the DeWalt torch to good use this week. Perfect to sit inside a kitchen cabinet when trying to plum the taps in

I only use genuine DeWalt but only because I don't see that the genuine batteries are that much more expensive than the knockoffs.

On "my" hand held Dyson I used a knock-off because it was a lot cheaper...and the capacity is a lot more than the genuine Dyson....been absolutely fine...better than the original!

Ah Flouron thats the ones I got but couldnt recall the name - yes recommended as good as OEM if not better, certainly a lot cheaper.

Anyone else noticed that tools are getting more expensive?

I killed my cheap DeWalt drill over the weekend....it's the one I use with a wire brush that I know will destroy the drill.

Bought in 2017 for £65...current price £125. In the end I just bought a gearbox assembly for £30. Other stuff is getting pricy too....chop saw was £250 when I didn't buy it....now £350+

If you’re any good with a soldering iron it’s simple enough to replace the actual battery cells. Yes, it’s tedious but very cost effective.

The thing with knock off batteries is that many (not all) don’t have the charge control circuitry which is really needed with lithium cells. Less important on Ni Mh ones.

DeWalt batteries are easy enough to change the cells...Dyson on the other hand not so much.

Isn't the soldering...the case is a nightmare to open and the battery rack is glued in I think. Gave up in the end...

Hilti are another make that don't make it easy to change cells but it can be done.

my Dewalt knock-offs worked ok for about 6 charges then they were down to a 3rd of the useful time of the OEM.........like someoe else mentioned, I just bit the bullet and bought OEM. managed to get my money back as the knock-off had a 3year warranty

I always weigh up cost Vs time for stuff...if it's too involved I simply throw it (it being the broken bit!)

For example washing machine broke...motor suspected so stripped and cleaned....didn't work...limited testing showed ok but multi meters are only of limited use with a 240v motor.

Second hand motor £30...job done...onto the next half dozen things that need looking at.

Way I look at it....I can spend a week on one thing....or rattle thro half a dozen. The more that gets fixed the more I've saved overall.

Jet washer was interesting...broken moulded plug...who has ever heard of that happening. Luckily I checked before destroying it!
