But can I get a holder to fit an Iscar and to fit in my rear tool post ?I have three like that. I have thrown in the towel and ordered up an Iscar holder @Tinbasherdan made me do it!
Many times I have seen (and done myself) you mill off the tool shank to fitBut can I get a holder to fit an Iscar and to fit in my rear tool post ?
Yes I set it square and on centre. Is that black bit a boat in your rear holder? And did you tilt it to make centre height?
Those holders should be dead level.
That’s okay if you have a good size mill , I only have a very small mill but could possibly get local firm to do it.Many times I have seen (and done myself) you mill off the tool shank to fit

Your not upholding the DIY Mantra very well....That’s okay if you have a good size mill , I only have a very small mill but could possibly get local firm to do it.
Having used the Iscar TGFH TAG insert style that everyone recommends, they are suited to bigger lathes, very durable and cut well but the force needed is higher. You have to drive them in hard and hope it cuts. Cant tickle a part like other inserts allow.I have three like that. As you have the tool upside down you will be clamping down on the top face so you could be as rough as you want removing metal from the underside (normal underside) as the top is the reference, an angle grinder would even do it.That’s okay if you have a good size mill , I only have a very small mill but could possibly get local firm to do it.
Ideally with a powered crossfeed and flood coolant if you have it, it changes parting off from a stressful operation you try to avoid to an absolute breeze. You have to drive them in hard and hope it cuts. Cant tickle a part like other inserts alallow.

I milled out a toolholder to take the Iscar Tang grip blade holder with 16mm shank. Didn't take much. 1mm top and bottom. Many times I have seen (and done myself) you mill off the tool shank to fit
your toolpost.
I have a 3mm Iscar Tang grip and I love it. But on hardened steel the 3mm wide insert is a bit too much for the South Bend 9".Having used the Iscar TGFH TAG insert style that everyone recommends, they are suited to bigger lathes, very durable and cut well but the force needed is higher. I had something move on my lathe resulting in a shattered insert and destroyed blade. Lucky I didnt pay too much as they are not cheap! About £120 for the set in 3mm and 2mm are rare.
The GTN2 inserts are sharper (the trade off being less durable). The blades and inserts are much cheaper. Ofcourse you can get decent branded inserts for it, but I like that cheap ones are available too - I have some decent ones.
@Dell if you need go remove material a grinder will do it, remove from the bottom of holder (as yours up side down) and it wont matter if its a square or parralel cut.
I did write TALK, not search the website or Ebay. She stocks the blades. I've bought several from her at shows. All I can find on JBC cutting tools is an insert.
