kindle V hudl

Pro's con's preferences? its for my wife who has a temporary incopacitated primary arm and has to have hours of tratment in hospital.

Er... you mean the full-fat Kindle rather than the basic book reader? Otherwise there's no comparison, the Kindle reader won't let you on the 'net for starters.

That aside, the Hudl is a lot better than many people expect (Google for reviews) - of course something 3 times the price is a lot better and many Apple fans can't see past the end of their noses - Nursy and I find that the Hudl is more convenient to have lying around ready for use than a laptop, and the Hudl is often faster too.
The 7" touch-screen is a pain for typing long-winded emails or replies to forum questions, however

I was thinking second hand fairly basic. I'm not IT so I need plain talk also. she prefers to read propper books so its purely to kill boredom with one arm during treatment.

I wouldn't bother looking for second hand, Argos have a kindle wi-fi at £49 so you will get full warranty with it.

I have a Google Nexus 7 and a basic Kindle reader and for reading books the Kindle wins hands down. It's really light, has a non reflective display and the battery lasts months. Plus you do not get distracted by emails etc.
I chuck my Kindle in my pocket or on the seat of the van, I am not 'precious' about it where as I am a lot more careful with my Nexus.

Plus if you are that way inclined there are a lot of 'free' books on the net.

+1 for Kindle. I have a Paperwhite (touchscreen & backlit) and gave my Kindle Fire HD (similar to most 7" tablets) to my daughter. The Kindle Paperwhite (or any basic Kindle) wins for reading because as mentioned above, it's considerably lighter and slightly easier to read on. It does one thing really well. The internet browser is only useful for occasional use. I love my Kindle.

If you just wanted a reader (which I thought is what the OP was on about)then the basic Kindle is good enough; once you're talking tablets (and now I assume the OP is ) then let battle commence

I have a Kindle fire hd. It was very frustrating (unwanted adds, limited apps) until I converted it to a normal tab running android jelly bean. I would go for the Hudi, its a bargain, runs the latest version of android and the hard ware is a match for the Kindle.

Yep, but then I find black and white pretty good for reading emails
