With the greatest of respect, if you have a machine like that (and I do) you should know what Hz are and the effect it has on AC. If you are at the start of your TIG welding learning curve then I suggest you read read and then read a bit more. This site has loads of info regarding setting up and the functions of a welding set. Dear Steve, we have bought one couple weeks ago. I recognized that we must learn to use it, unfortinately by trials and errors by ourselves as the manual is really unusable, and the machine itself has some strange logic (see my bellow question about AC balance setting)...
Anyway, "Hz" is related to AC frequency, used for welding of Al and Mg alloys, and you could choose from 50 Hz up to 250 Hz... Now, you should know something about TIG welding first... So it is recommended to use 100-120 Hz for almost all type of joint (butt, lap, outside corner) and 120-150 Hz for fillet. We do not play too much, simply we choose 150 Hz for fillet and 100 Hz for the rest... I came across the advice that nobody needs more than 150 Hz, so we all may play and make trials if 200 or more Hz is needed or just follow the advice as we do now...
I also would like to hear better settings if someone familiar is willing to share his knowledge...
And I noticed tofay, while welding at AC, with 100 Hz, at set 40 A, that during welding the amperage fell to 39... I set it to 80 A, and during welding it fell to 78 A... It seems that higher AC frequency lower the amperage a bit... What is the reason I would like to know...
