thats your best bet costs almost nothing and won't take much time to do, if it don't work move on to some of the more exotic ideas.

If we were not overlooked from all sides I would be culling both the flying and bushy tailed rats, but as you say the neighbours would not like it. Having said that recently there has been a family of five foxes wrecking the garden, I think they have been attracted to the pond during the recent dry weather, don't know what I would need to shoot them.

put tie wraps on it with the tails all pointing up then cut them short at a angle so sharp point sticking up .5 inch long about 20 of then will do you

but the magpies and crows have really taken over.

22 LR live ammo you would struggle with a air rifle

You're not wrong: I read in a shooting magazine in my teens that crows were armour-plated but I didn't believe it until one morning when I'd got up at 0300 to go shooting over the local fields... as I left the house I heard a crow cawing, looked up and there's this fat monster on the chimney stack.
Got the rifle out of its case (.22 Sterling HR81 with a Singlepoint sight), loaded up and let rip, aiming right at the centre of its chest.
I swear the bird jumped off its perch, fluffed its feathers up, cawed and sat back down again.
So I reloaded and had another go... and another and another.
Eventually it flew off, leaving a few feathers floating around.
Now granted I may have only clipped it every time, but I've never seen a bird sit and take being shot at before or since!

The only .22 i have is a big old bsa international martini target rifle, it weighs about 12lb and is very long , i 'd never gallop out with it , shoot the squawking git and run back in without being spotted by the old dear in her observation post across the road. I have considered it , oh yes.

from memory quite legal to shoot tree rats im sure DEFRA has put a price on them you have hand in the tails

You cocked up. They will go down just the same as anything else, if hit correctly.

Amen. Whilst I'm sure not many haven't gone through a phase of shooting things in ones younger, more naive years, can't see the point of grown people wanting to kill anything. Everything in nature has its place and should be let be.

The Magpie argument is one typical example. They kill other birds etc., so need culling. Christ, we have shedloads of them here and they merrily coexist with the other birds. The Magpie's simply keep to their territory and they're fine.

The zip tie method will work fine. btw. Just put plenty on there and cut them short with snips. You want just enough protruding to make it uncomfortable for the birds, wherever they perch on the boom.

There is a bounty on them , i don't know how much it is, we also have a bounty on grey squirrels and mink of €3 a head, i like the martini but it is a heavy old ******.
