In all honesty, probably just coincidence, although the extra load from the AC on that engine will have made the problem more noticeable.
Biggest killer of coil packs is worn/faulty plugs, or HT leads. Anything that increases the spark gap, puts more strain on the coil, making it more likely to break down internally.
