I could have sworn my short series Kamasa spanners had 'Made in China' on them.... maybe its says '19'
I've not seen their gear for sale anywhere since Lucas shut the doors.
A retired car mechanic i know used to swear by kamasa tools made years ago, but like everything else they went downmarket and the quality has suffered. What about teng tools spanners ? I bought a teng socket set when starting my apprenticeship and they have worn well.
Well I have bought the Kamasa set, I had a £5 off voucher so the 14 piece set cost me £24.60: http://www.toolstation.com/m/part.html?p=42519
Packaging was nothing special, but visually the spanners look good, the important bit for me is that the set includes the larger spanners as nearly all the other sets only go up to 19mm or 24mm but this set includes 27mm, 30mm and 32mm.
As I said it's not my main set but one to keep in the van.
I'll let you know how they fare when I get to use them in anger.
looks like the manufacturing has been farmed out to China in recent years then. Just checked mine they definately have Made in Japan stamped on them. Though they are over 30 years old.
Nice to see a set that includes larger spanners. Sods law means that if you keep them in the van you will however soon be needing a 26 and 28 mm spanner thats not in the set
I had a couple of Kamasa socket sets from scrapped cars but I'm convinced they were poor copies as nothing was stamped Kamasa just labels on the boxes. They were the really cheap Taiwanese sets with poor chrome, rough ratchets and the obligatory 1/4" drive screwdriver with the handle made from boiled sweets. They get used for making special tools etc.
Is walther stuff any good anymore ? i have a set of their older spanners and they were good if a little thin, a bit uncomfortable to use if you have to really hang out of them.
Just to throw a spanner in the works, hiding in plain sight on my lathe I noticed this 18mm combination spanner used for the tool post nut. Not made in Japan as I remembered!
