I lost my best friend two weeks ago...1of 5 working B Collies....Collapsed late Sat night (no emergency vet here)
I held him for 3 hours, he died in my arms.....Yes it still hurts a lot.....
he was my shadow, always carried his ball....The Cat and him were great mates....

Get a call from the shelter we help with fostering....can we take these two....?
2 days old n dumped in a box.....by the bins....
Thats a double AA Batt for size....

Been here almost 6 years now and stopped counting new borns weve helped after the first 100....we never name them untill they are 1 month old because you never know if they'll make it....
So a few disturbed nights for a while but we both enjoy them....team effort....
They will stay with us until 4 months old, then they can travel to their new homes.....Northern Europe....
They will be CAT freindly, house clean (the whole house if fully tiled, hahaha) used to a lead, car and fully socialised....

Having these come along at the right time will keep me from thinking about the recent past....

sorry to hear about your collie, they are great dogs. there is one at a lake i fish that is free to roam and will come and say hello every time im there and will lay next to my bait tub to keep the magpies away.

we think my mastiff is approaching the end at the moment, he has gone off his food, no energy, barely drinking. vet says no issues they can detect. he is minimum 11 years old (was told he was 6 when i got him 5 years ago, but the vet back then said they thought he was closer to 8) and he was given to me by a guy that originally rescued him as what he was told was a 1 year old dog after he was found locked in a cupboard in an abandoned flat marked for demo.

hopefully the pups come good and fight through, getting them in the first few days increases their chances in my experience, its when they have been left a week and found on the verge of death that the major issues come through. my lab was a rescue, and my mothers GSD was a rescue as well. we also had an ex police rottweiler after her handler had a stroke and couldnt care for her anymore

We had a little earthquake of a fox dog pinscher mix for about 17 years, I was 7 when we got him.
I've been crying like a child for days when he passed away.
Friday evening back from work, he salut me like everyday, time to go to the bathroom to wash my hands he was laying on the floor, tongue out no responses very hard breathing just couldn't move.
I've stayed all the night with him, eventually on Saturday afternoon we took him to the vet and made the hard decision...
I refused to take him to die, I just stayed on the couch crying since they took him there till they took his body back home till I've eventually collapsed sleep.
It was 2023 I'm still crying while writing.
We buried him next to a tree in my property in the woods.
6 or 8 months later my sister came home bringing a Prague Ratter puppy, a very affective little dog, it took me few days to accept him.
I was avoiding even to look at him

(He was something like that at the time, maybe even smaller)
but you know children are very dangerous for those little creatures and on a Sunday afternoon I've had to take him to save him from my nephews avoiding to get him crushed.
Well it's my shadow now we play every morning while having breakfast, during the lunch break, when I got back from work.
He's always with me, he sleeps very close to me too

Sorry to read this mate. I’d sooner lose a family member than my dogs. I held my collie as she went a couple of years ago, got the phone call that she was on her way when I was at work and broke down in the managers office. Absolutely destroyed me. Drove like a knob to get to the vets.
Rescued her from a small holding when she was 7 weeks, two young lads had taken it over when their dad died. One of the collies had a litter and was in a bad way herself, they “put her down” with a claw hammer. I was doing a welding job for them when they opened a barn and these little balls of fur covered in crap and mud wandered out. I took a pup instead of payment- “id sooner pay you mate, probably going to end up throwing these in the pond”

She was 14 when she went.
