Just done a mig course now which welder?

Just completed a basic two day mig course. Think I did pretty well the instructor said I should think about doing my coded. I took the course to basically get to grips with the basics and practice with all there metal in a nice warm workshop.

Anyway on the back of that I'm looking to buy a mig welder with a budget of £500 ish I guess but would go a little higher if a few quid more bought a much better product.

I have been reading reviews on the r-tech 180 mig and the weldequip portamig welders and both seem to get rave reviews.

Basically I'm asking for experience on the above two machines and also any suggestions of others that I should consider.

Will largely be used for automotive hobby stuff.

Gas & safety gear can notch up the budget significantly, have you budgeted for that, or is £500ish just for the machine?

buying a mig is not the end of it have you factored in
the mask
gloves
mig wire gas and also the regulator within your price as well?

not forgetting your grinder and also something to clean right into the joints

Have you seen the Kemmpi mig for sake in the used section - that’s where my money would be going.

No £500 is just for the machine, I understand that I obviously need to get the rest of it, but in terms of the machine and it's preformance alone just want to know where the best bet would. E for the money

I have just purchased a Autostar 160 which is 100% identical to the Jasic mig 160 inverter but comes with 3 years warranty instead of 5 years. Was £545plus vat but included a decent mask, regulator, Trolley/stand, gloves and 0.8mm wire. I thinks its great value for something that give fine control down to 10amps. Capable of MIG, MMA and TIG. Loving it so far but time will tell.

i can vouch for the portamigs, i bought mine from weldequip.
great peice of kit that makes welding a doddle compared to cheap machines like the sealey super mig i was using.
only downsides is that its really not very portable and weighs a ton with wire and gas on board.

+1 on the parweld, I've got the big 200 amp one and I love it. Got the electrician coming on Monday to have a look at getting a power supply down to the shed, so I'll have a dedicated 32 amp supply for it. 50 meters of 16mm armoured cable and we've got to dig an 18 inch trench all the way...

I’ve got an R Tech mig180, which I replaced a basic transformer welder with, and straight away found it easier to weld with; probably much to do with the infinite adjustability of an inverter device. I am a tyro weldist though. Doubleboost on here has comprehensive YouTube review of the welder.
