Hey everyone who isn't stupid like me.
I just picked up my first 110V Lincoln Mig welder today. Thought I should register because I need to learn and I just had a catastrophic failure in my garage while attempting my first weld.
Here's what happened (best I can explain anyways).
So I set up my Mig welder and reverse the polarity for some fluxcore practice. Since I didn't know what I was really doing, I didn't attach the end of the gun to the machine properly. I literally cannot figure out how, it's ridiculous...
Anyways, I clean up some garbage exhaust piping and put the clamp on to ground it. I feed the wire through the gun to around 3/4" and put the wire speed to 2 with the power setting at max. Yes, I am an idiot.
That's how I ended up fusing the wire at the side of the gun chord (sorry i don't know proper terminology) that connects to the machine (remember I didn't securely connect it, again, I am an idiot...)
*spark* *spark* "hey why isn't my wire feeding through anymore?"
And that is how I entered MIG welding, just 20 minutes ago in my garage.
It looks like I have to replace the gun and chord now, and likely recreate the events again tomorrow. If I can salvage it, please tell me.
Anyways, my name is gordo and I'm an idiot. Nice to meet you guys.
