Jotun Jotamastic 90 Vs Lechler 29107 ?

In every epoxy thread, both the jotum and lechler are always recommended.

I suspect that people who use the jotum recommend the jotum, and people who use the lechler recommend the lechler. In every application circumstance.


Does anyone here use both? And when do you use one and when do you use the other?


I'm trying to get a comparison without the usual tribal loyalties!

Jotamastic is thicker and I think it's ideally suited to areas which aren't normally on show such as underside, interior etc. I like to roller or brush it on with no thinners and don't bother blocking it smooth. I get the impression / feeling that it's a harder wearing, thicker paint also its a more industrial paint, suitable for boats, bridges etc
Lechler is more of a topside undercoat, thinner, easier to spray and sand. More of a traditional car primer by both design and the way it acts

What's your application?

The Jotun is thicker and not well suited for spray application with a standard gun and needs overthinned to achieve a fine finish, which is not recommended by the manufacturer, but can be done.
Also it's not as easy to sand, but being thicker it has much better anti corrosion properties.

As above. You're looking at two different products for different applications. Mastic is more of chassis prep with wet on wet top coat finish abilities, whereas the primer is exactly that, as in used as a sealer or surfacer, depending on reducer amount. It can be used wet on wet or once cured flatted back for subsequent coats.

Not quite. Both excellent products for entirely different uses. For bodywork, it has to be an automotive epoxy such as Lechler, Mipa or Kapci etc. For chassis, or other parts unseen and brush painted, then Jotun would be the product to use. However rather that having two products in stock, I use Lechler 29107 universally.

I use lechler all the time for work. But that's freshly folded aluminum. So I have lechler in stock all the time.

However, I need to paint a few chasiss -

One is new, galvanized. The lechler, according to it's datasheet, should be fine with that. As to if it would be "the best", I don't know?

The others are old, rusty things.

Can I ask a total novice numpty question?
If I was looking to just clean down (maybe pressure wash & dry, perhaps a scrape & wire brush here n there) and wanted to underbody protect... would Jotamastic be the kiddie?

If yes.... I have recently bought a pressure pot that comes with a 1.5 and a 4.0 mm nozzle... would it spray well with the bigger one, or too - splurgy (technical term ) - and better applied by brush?

wants at least to be keyyed /roughed up where you paint , and anywhere it wire wheels go back and rough with with sandpaper

I dont like the packaging of raptor. Its set up for one liter etc at a time. I guess you could weight out portions of it, but i doubt there is datasheet values.

Anyway, thats why ive always avoided it.

I can't remember the ratio but it is marked clearly. We buy a job lot and tint it accordingly but most don't need 4L at a time I grant you. Good stuff mind.
