Hi guys so one last question what sort of air pressure should I be spraying jotamastic 87 because unless I'm reading the data sheet incorrectly it states 2100psi if thats the case I need a far bigger compressor and stronger panels lol.

That's for airless.

I use -
Cheap gravity gun with a 2.5 fluid tip
15 to 20% thinners (15% should be fine in this heat)
30 to 35 psi (as low as you can get away with)

Not the one I have but I think this would be hard to beat for the money
If I didn't have so many guns already I'd buy one to try it out.

I always thought standard thinners were only for cleaning and not for adding to paint. I only use the correct thinners you hardly use anything so they last for ages. I buy standard thinners in 20l drums and use them for cleaning spray guns etc so go through them much more than the paint thinners.

Yeah the terms are definitely too interchangeable.
I always thought that;
standard thinners is celly thinners, quality can be variable and some of it might be recycled. Only good for thinning celly paint or cleaning up tools/ guns.

Universal thinners are 2k thinners and are good to use to thin 2k paints including some epoxies depending on what the tds says. They have been used in all sorts of other epoxies without issue from what I've read.

Then you have gunwash which usually are recycled solvents from the printing industry... Ok for cleaning out guns but not for mixing with paint although I have heard of some nutters using it for that!

Epoxy thinners seem to be another ball game. I have some bilt hamber Epoxy thinners which has a kinda white spirit whiff to it... I've used it with bilt hamber Epoxy mastic and jotamastic. Maybe it's a low odour thinner.
I have some lechler Epoxy thinners too which smell different again lol.

They all smell different for sure, gunwash and universal 2k thinner smell similar, standard thinners smells like celly.

Defo. It's at your own risk and if I wasn't doing stuff on a shoe string I would use all the 'correct' products but so far I've not seen any reports conclusively stating that using universal thinners with epoxy has caused issues and the number of companies/ tech sheets actually advising to use 2k thinners with epoxy is growing it seems.

Thinners with acetone, etc, definately reduce the strength/properties of the cured epoxy, it's one of the things we have to be very careful of in layups and bonding composites together.
