Hi, has anyone tried welding around primed jotamastic 87 (or 80) surface? We're experiancing very easy burning and peeling coating. It this normal (due to low temperature tolerance) or this is some other issues? Surface was keyd and cleaned properly, waited full cure time.
Seems like you were Not expecting the paint to burn?
Surely you weld first, then paint when welding is complete...
I've found any existing paint will burn off, for an inch or more around the weld.
Anything non-metal in the immediate area is at risk...
I'm well aware of weld first prime later thing. This panel have been primed from both sides and than welded back to the car. The other side is not accessible after that..
This is totally normal. I think it's maybe more than you would get with a standard 1k polyester primer as the film thickness of the epoxy means it kind of melts before burning. Where a thin application of 1k or non epoxy primer would just burn up more. either way any paint would be ruined in that area.
