I've done exactly the same, you couldn't see the pipes rotting above the tank so unless the driver had cause to brake hard they would burst on the mot testI've worked on many Mondeos and they use joints at the front and rear of the lines. I've had lines fail an mot and relplaced them with sections old to new and they have passed.

also that fact you think it is bad practise when car makers themselves use this method and have done forever just shows that it's only your opinion, millions of cars on the road can't be wrong, how many have you heard of that have failed ? I've never heard of one
