I have a twin axle Indespension trailer and the jockey wheel has never been great winding up and down. I bought the trailer second hand about 5yrs ago and it hadn't been abused by it's PO
Finally it was annoying me that much I removed it from the trailer and stripped it down
I was expecting to find some kinda thrust bearing but doesn't appear so, would these have had one?

The threaded rod has a disc welded to it and I'd assumed that the thrust bearing would sit on this
The outer housing appears to have 2 discs at the top inside of the tube but they don't seem to want to budge see last photo), might these be the races from a long defunct thrust bearing?
With it all assembled, there is about 6mm of end float on the threaded shaft which sort of suggests there should be some sort of bearing but I can't seem to find any thin enough to do the job
I believe the jockey wheel is original for the trailer
I could machine the threaded bar to give enough clearance for a thrust bearing or alternatively cut off the top of the tube and see if that is the remnants of a thrust bearing
