yeah the original ribbed 4 spokes were cast wheels the same as on late chaleys etc.. but the oens I bought were cnc milled ally, albeit chinese ally but they have stood up well to living outside and some serious abuse and mileage

the 50 ate its gearbox selector forks after getting bored up to 85cc
( I would recommend this over getting a long stroke motor as it is same capacity but revs its tits off)
the 70 I still have but I also have a 70 stepthru which it will be going into , the motor in the stepthru is the abortion engine when honda was between designs and not worth a light in any shape or form...would g into details but its long winded.. suffice to say boring it up is a nono... and there are no performance pistons for it either. buy my bike it makes sense

Looks like your rebuilding this one proper Will... No strimmers for handle bars etc... I come give you a hand at easter.

bore up kit was flogged ages ago sadly.. the lifan is in teh bike stil at the moment but it has issues with 1st gear as it tries to jump out sometimes..(might be the big valve head and full race cam though making it a bit too torquey) the thing does shift though ! ! !

Same basic engine as the Jingcheng in my mates Honda C70 back around '85, a stand in for his GS550 being off the road at the time. Final incarnation was an SS50 clutch with stronger springs and extra disc, YB100 carb sticking out through the leg shield, RM250 throttle & clutch lever, reverse cone mega, flowed & skimmed head, C90 inner valve springs, 0.025" off the base circle of the cam and slotted cam wheel. Geared up heavily it was clocked at around 80mph on theThorpe bypass by another bike. Most of the parts and mods came from my '73 SS50! Happy days.

How do you expect to 'Pull' on that? I can see this machine effectively keeping you celibate for some time. Neat set of wheels though.
The C50 wheelie photo bought back some dodgy memories. Give it the beans, then slam it into gear. In the end all the filler holding it together falls out and the back end collapses. Has anybody seen how much C50's sell for these days? £800+ I have seen in the classic bike mags. Time to start dredging canals.

Another trick with the C50/70/90 automatic clutch is to drop it into gear and hold the pedal down as it keeps the clutch disengaged. Up the revs then let the lever go and you get the same effect as dropping it into gear except you can do it more often as the gearbox doesn't break!

SS50 5 speed gearboxes have a habit of exploding too if you keep doing donuts with the bike laid over speedway style.

there is something not quite right with that engine it shows the cylinder head but i cant see anything to operate the valves no where for a cam chain and no pushrod access its not what it makes out to be
