I once heard a rumour that someone had asked Jimi Hendrix for advice on the best way to learn how to play the guitar. He replied: 'Learn on the worst guitar you can find - one with a heavy action and heavy strings, sounds awful and is uncomfortable to play. If you can make it sound good, when you get your hands on a real guitar, you'll blow people away.' (Or something to that effect
) Having taught a few people to play the guitar myself, I have generally ignored Jimi's sound advice and told them to spend as much as they can.
However, it seems there may be at some truth in this matter when it comes to welding machines... After struggling for years with a Clarke 90EN Gas/No Gas model, I finally decided to spend some dough on a better machine - and after much procrastination, purchased a Clarke 160TE from Weldequip. 45 minutes in the garage and I'm welding better than ever before! I'm not saying I'm at the same level welding wise as Jimi was on the old geetar - but I would definitely be happy to label the Clarke pro range as the 'Fender Strat' of welders. (Portamig maybe the Gibson Les Paul deluxe...
- but couldn't afford one of those!!)
P.S. Weldequip - can't praise the man enough for friendly advice and service, delivery speed astonishing. If you're thinking of buying a new Clarke, forget about Extreme Fart and see this fella. He's got a customer for life here.

) too often and blowing the thermal sensor then a capacitor I dug deep and bought a Portamig 361 (360A). It's currently the biggest Portamig owned by a forum member so far but not for much longer as I have it from the horse's mouth that I'm about to be ousted from my top-spot by another member who's ordered the same spec machine as mine but with a SWFU
. (Just kidding M

... i feel violated!!!
