and the majority have been spectators who do not appreciate the risks involved.

This, so many times I see people stood on the outside of a slippery corner, or 6ft from the track with a slippery banking behind them and nowhere to go.....they never seem to realise just what a mess 1000kg+ of steel at high speed makes.

I watch rallies a few times on tele and it still baffles me why people stand on the outside of a corner. they all obviously watch the sport, so they know what happens on a muddy corner at stupid fast speeds, one minor error by the driver and the car comes off straight through the outside of the corner. I know for the spectators its all about getting as close to the action as you can but why not stand on the entrance to the corner, or the safe side of the exit

As a licenced marshal. My heart goes out for spectators familys.
We are all to quick to point fingers at people, most marshals do their best,remember we are only volunteers
No one has said anything about the driver, how the hell do you he/she feels.
Every time i sign on as a marshal i have to deal with the stupid, the woolly hat and the tree hugger .accidents happen !.
If you want a safe boring life stay away.
You must understand the risks involved.

its not a matter of a safe boring life its common sense and if u havent any take heed from the marshal when he tells u to keep clear of the bent . the guy whose racing isnt watching fred bloggs on the side of the road hese concentrating on pushing the car to its limit stay on the road and win the race . unfortunately u cant always do that and get it wrong and have to live with the consequence

No .i tend to marshal down south.
I do not wish to get into a slanging match or anything else like that.
All im trying to say is , as marshals we try and do our best in quite often very difficult situations.

working with the public can be very trying they tend not to listen , and the drunk public are even worse

Believe it or not I do respect the work marshals do

I respect the work that any volunteers at events like these do. the point we are getting at is that even after the marshals had told people to move they moved back again. it was on the news that the marshals had asked that group of people 4 times overall to move from that location, yet they still kept moving back. this is the thing that baffles me, someone who is looking out for your wellbeing and safety tells you to move to somewhere safer and it just gets ignored

they had a split second to realise why they were told to move then paid the ultimate price for ignoring the advise
