Found my pic of the 8mm caliper bolts old and new, old one obviously on left across flats 12.27 mm -----new one 13mm
Are they not spline drive they used to be

Goood thing is metric bi hex spanners fit male headed torx for confined limited movement, to give twelfth turn Coz torx spanners only move one sixthI think torx are pretty good in general as others have said they don't cam out like hex bit heads can do.
they are spline but it's the same diffrence, clean them out and good tool come out easy,
the nightmare it torx head bolts, espectaly ones in tight spaces with heads that are made of cheese. BGA cylinder head bolts are usally the cause of most swearing
