Like many a loving parent I often offer to drive my daughter to college, to save her waiting for the erratic and rubbish bus system. Traffic is horrendous in rush hour, and with the motorway closed more often than it is open nowadays, which diverts it all through the town, it might be quicker for her to walk some days...

One ‘culture shock’ that hits me whenever I take a bike trip over the channel then return to Blighty: the sheer volume of traffic on the roads in the UK, compared to that of Europe. Why is this? We just haven’t bothered to keep up with the growth of traffic I guess?
Everybody wants more roads, but they don’t want them anywhere near their own gaff.
45 miles [yes! All of that] of which c 2/3 is single track road. Took me about an hour and twenty minutes, weather was atrocious, but on the way the traffic was horrendous.

) only have to slow down in the towns. On my (rare) visits to UK, the traffic boggles. Chatting to another old friend from the 60s, who lives by Poitiers and needs to go back every two months, he finds it getting worse and gets headaches from the pollution.
) but here it misses the strong stuff by the Pyrenees as well as the wet stuff up norf. Temp this morning at 07.00 was 14°C. But looking at close to 0 next week.That's only relevant if you insist on taking her along....
