A gearbox from above has appeared, jumps out of drive, have to hold it in.
Striped down, & the drive dogs are SHOT, no spares available.
Any suggestions? tig up is an easy cure but how to harden.
The ramps on one set ok but on other face need building up, the other set both ends of the dogs shot.
What else uses same box ??? cant believe JCB designed and made the box for 1 model, a spares supplier would be handy, JCB dont want to know 12 years old

Have you tried the JCB online parts? - https://parts.jcb.com/ You'll need the machine PIN
Also was it a construction or agri dealer you tried?
JCB can be quite funny about parts having to be supplied through the correct type of dealer.

I would guess it's something they've rebranded, as I can't see it would be viable for them to design something like that from scratch given it's not exactly a huge market.

When did they sto making that machine? It used to be a legal requirement to keep spares for ten years after last manufacture, something that Agco/MF took very seriously when I was involved.

Avoid the Workmax at all costs - a friend put a brand new shop soiled one in Euro Auctions and it only made £6k, all the trade avoid them like the plague - thought JCB had pulled out of this market - made by TYM in China I think -

Is the engine and gearbox unique to JCB? I serviced one about 10 years ago, the rest of it looked like it was scraped out of the cheapest chinese parts bin.

Engines came from a variety of sources - possibly Yanmar.
Gearboxes no idea - obviously not made by JCB.

no clues on any of the rest of it as to origin , no cast in numbers etc that you could do a google search on , its probably something else bought in.

Thanks for reply's the owner has released he was sold a dud, spoke with a Co doing HF too small a job, a second hand box was found but broken they wanted £500

I seem to recall people using stellite (sp?) rods to give hard wearing surfaces. Never touched them myself, but might be something to look at.

tig weld it using a drill bit as a filler rod , its totally hit or miss , but you will end up with something hard .

its a last resort , but its still a trick to have up your sleeve .

I did a similar repair for customer a couple of years ago. Built up the dogs with hard facing rods then re ground them in the mill using the rotary table for indexing.
It was an experiment and I warned the customer it may not be as good as factory.
Not heard anything from him.

I could do it but I'm rammed with work booked in at the moment. Depends on how quickly it's needed

In a similar situation. ie no parts available I just cut the drive dogs square with a grinder. Ok it made the gearbox quite sloppy but it held in gear.

will take the splines of the shaft if it's the same quality
@Fazerruss looks a nice job, some idea of price will help to focus minds and then the time scale 1 month 2
It is both gears in the 2 sets 18 ends in total, see picture's #1 will talk to them Monday and they can talk to customer.
