Sounds like the OP is also going to spend a lot of his own time for someone else who is very likely to **** him around constantly then lose interest somewhere down the line.

If I were you dippy, I'd tell the chap you're designing this for that you're going to charge a small fee to cover some of your time. I'm banking you'll not hear of it again. Better to lose the task now rather than waste shedloads of time on it for nothing, IMHO, and that's the type of job that it sounds to be. The world is full of people with genius ideas which are going to make millions. The proof of their belief lies in whether they believe it's worth parting with any of their own cash first, and I'm guessing not.

if t.hats the case if i was u id go take a good look at some take all the measurments and see how it pans out. it may not be viable by the time u have purchased half the gear

Are the design parameters changing by the minute or are you only giving us half the story? The more I hear the more I think it would be a good idea to run away from this ''project'', a long way away

The pic you posted looks like a variation on a pedal cutter which would crush tube then struggle to cut through it, you would be better off with a shearing action, something like this

Ok its to break the bead on plant tyres, he said there is nothing like it on the market, so now you all know, that why I couldn't tell all, but he said he wanted a compact air tool like the jaws of life, thats were my problems started when he told me so things had to change. I only found out half hour ago what it will be designed to do

i had a bought tire bead breaker for cars. it had a compressed air cylinder to press tire off .the piston was about 6inch diameter and the travel was about 12 inch long and ran at about 80 psi
