Does anyone have a test bar with Jarno #12 taper for spindle alignment checks on a CVA lathe to buy or borrow?

But it seemed daft not to ask here first. Would you recommend getting a home made one hardened?
Obviously before grinding tho

Easier to grind hardened but if it’s for one use

Talking about test bars. ( and in true tradition of the forum) going off topic slightly.
Where would one get specific sized test bars to test collets on a collet chuck?

If you mean to test the runout, just a bit of silver steel, or do you mean to test the female taper of the chuck?

It would be wise to look up the standard manufacturing tolerance of silver steel as you would need to know it in order properly to interpret any measurements you make using it.

For small sizes (e.g 6mm), you could compare and contrast with the manufacturing tolerances of a gauge pin or dowel pin.

Another good source of 'round' things, mentioned here before, are piston little end pins (chainsaw, moped, motorbike, car, truck, ship).
