Hi to all above --- am considering a getting a J&S 540 - would appreciate any pointers re obvious no-no's to look for. Will almost certainly strip and replace the "normally worn" components - so also interested in which are the most obvious components which will need replacing and whether spares are readily available & sensible cost.
As I don't have 3 phase, I would run it off of possibly 2 VFD's to run the wheel motor and hydraulic motor separately (I use VFD's very successfullly on my Boxford X10 lathe and my 2HP Bridgeport) & maybe replace the coolant motor with a single phase one as it may be cheaper---- the one I am looking at is early 1973 so would like to know if the motors of this period are able to be configured in delta --- I have seen other postings which indicated the motors are able to be configured like this but don't know what year they were.
Any other feedback or pointers re the 540 would be very much appreciated.
Cheers!, James
