Trying to fix a mate’s twin axle DP stock trailer.
He said the front wheels were locking up when reversing, possibly staying locked as the front tyres had flat spots on them.
I’ve stripped all 4 hubs down, replaced the brake cables, and adjusted everything properly. Nothing seemed amiss with the problem hubs. Drums all good, shoe linings good and not lifting off.
This type, and yes, I’ve checked to make sure everything’s assembled correctly and on the right side:
When I rotate the front hubs forwards (handbrake on), they lock up fine. They will reverse about 16th of a turn then lock up solid. The cable balancer seems to take up slack when I do this, which is odd. Rears work perfectly.
When adjusting the shoes (wedge adjuster) the auto reverse works, ie they lock up forward but will turn backwards fine. It’s something to do with when the cable pulls the brakes on, not the adjuster.
I’ve had the hubs off again on one side, compared the two, both the same. I even took the hardware off and laid it side by side to check. Has anyone seen this before? The only thing I can think of, while writing this, is something to do with the spreader link that the cable pulls on (12 o’clock in the pic). I didn’t compare those.
Cheers
