you can also stick weld and O/A al, but I doubt many do these days.....

Most casting, when thick material is involved not nice to weld, it's a heat sink. I'll stick to exhaust pipe welding!

thanks for the pictures, although it still wont clear up the dispute.
Why not make a heavy duty switch that goes across the cables and alternates the polarity on the DC. Get someone to throw the switch like mad while you weld the aluminium.
