Sorry -- negative torch, positive earth (still seems daft to say that!). So that is DCEN, same as for steel, Ti, etc.?

Most casting, when thick material is involved not nice to weld, it's a heat sink. I'll stick to exhaust pipe welding!

The stickers can speak for themselves, but gas welding aluminium is still the sensible way to go if you're welding non structural stuff which needs hammerforming. For sure, it's a small niche, but not one to be lightly kicked out of bed.

There really isn't a dispute. As Snowy alludes, once upon a time, the only ways to weld aluminium were gas and DC TIG. Gas still has a small niche in which it has advantages over AC TIG, there are no advantages whatsoever to DC TIG of aluminium, but it can be done.

Why not make a heavy duty switch that goes across the cables and alternates the polarity on the DC. Get someone to throw the switch like mad while you weld the aluminium. And use a spark plug to make the required high frequency.
Or use MIG.
And by the way, why do people call aluminium "alloy"?
I've got some "alloy" wheels on my van - they are a copper/tin/lead/magnesium alloy
