Well after deciding I needed my own MIG rather than borrowing one I came across one advertised locally that was cheap enough to take a look.
So yesterday I picked up a Sealey Supermig 170/1 with two reels of wire, two cans of anti-spatter and a CO2/Argon regulator, for £60
I believe it to be a 1995 model (serial number is xxxxx-95) and the guy told me it was on the original wire!!! I stripped back loads of it until it looked clean again, luckilly the other reel was bagged.
It was covered in cobwebs/dust/dirt, but after a good clean down it loos good for 12 years old!!
I cleaned up the pinch rollers and wire fed through OK, but is there anything else worth doing service wise?
I'l definately need some new tips as it has a 1mm tip in it with 0.6 wire, I also wondered about changing the liner to a steel one if they are available?
Just need to hire a bottle and I'm away
On a side note, at what point do you switch to 0.8mm wire? Is it the material thickness that dictates the wire gauge?
