I am happy to be told differently but I really cannot see it. I held on util the end and really I need to go Linux I think. I am going to have to use WINE though as I will just not give up my email software.

Microsoft has forced all of to head in this direction, and I was perfectly happy with Windows 98! When the resentment disperses a bit, I tend to think that W11 is not that bad, but I guess that some will decide to take a close look at Linux.

I have one laptop with win11 on and find it ok. The older win10 laptops I have here will be converted to Linux Mint and Ubuntu over Christmas.

Hate it, can't find the scanner option for my multi function printer, it doesn't even see my phone when it's connected
I just find it not user friendly at all

I've had a proper look and planned a migration to Linux

I have some software that needs Windows, some may run with Wine (if Access runtime will also work) but some absolutely will not run

Latest Libre Office is close to working at the level I need it to

Current thought is either keep a windows laptop or build a powerful machine that will run a VM

'openshell' works with win11. You can choose between win10 or win7 style menues and file manager. It's an addon, you can choose to use it or the win11 standard.

If you have a fancy to try Linux, I would suggest either Mint or Zorin. Zorin is designed to make it easy to use for both windows and mac users. Download the ISO file and install it to a USB stick (say 20GB) and run it from there. If/when you're happy install to your hard disk in dual boot mode.

As usual when new versions of Windows are released, it takes a little while to get used to the new/changed user interface

Yes I dont like the fact that the UI is dumbed down and stuff is in different places, but, I usually find once I'm used to the changes I dont want to go back to the older versions

I despise it too, so hardly use my new year old laptop year, if I need to do word and excel etc I use my old work machine with windows 7 pro on. Email etc I use my ipad.

I've now got Win11 on two computers, and other than the start button/task bar buttons being in the middle, and the menu structure being a bit different, I've not got any problems with it.

I'll be updating my main desktop at some point when I can be bothered to buy a new SSD, as I'm needing to increase storage space on it, so may as well do a clean install at the same time. And possibly upgrade the processor, and fit the water cooler I've had sitting for a few months...

Windows 11 genuinely is terrible, we have to use it at work due to diagnostic programs and it's bloody awful compared to Windows 10..

A real step back imho (I have been using it for a good couple of years now and it doesn't age well).

They are going all in to ban and disable Local Accounts too..

I shall be going to linux before long. A word of caution though, My son & i recently tried installing it on this computer as a dual boot system, It beat us.
Nick is 29 & highly competent in IT which he uses at work extensively including coding. The linux instal failed with literally hundreds of dire error & conflict messages coming up. Whatever we did didnt work. We were forced to retreat & give up.
Now im fairly competent but installing linux is not as easy as its made out to be, if i had tried i would have been flummoxed before Nick was. I shall have to get another machine & do a clean new instal.
