Incidentally, I also bought from the same laddie who sold me the bender, his stock of mixed rods. By Jiminy, what a range - monel, inconel, stellite, cast iron, loads of different ally tig rods - various si percentages, mag alloy, bronze, mag bronze, the list goes on and on. Plus a load if tiny 6013's, some 6012's, 7018's, s/s, vodex, esab easy46's, new unopened boxes... etc etc. And some gouging rods too, plus more. Golly.
So for the ally tig stuff, I need a welder (and some work to go with... hmmm)
I might list some of the stuff and put it up for sale... see if anyone's interested.

the size of the cable is irrelevant with regard to those upstream of your power source. the only person that loses will be you, in terms of reduced voltage at higher loads of your welder.
Quite why their lights flicker, I don't know. I can't imagine that the local network would really be affected by the load of your welder? Does it only apply to fluorescent lamps or are incandescent lamps also affected?

We don't have any fluorescent lamps in our house so it is just normal bulbs that are doing the flickering. The only fluorescent tubes I have are in the workshop and I cannae tell if those flicker or not when I'm welding. Thanks for your help.

Whereabouts in the borders are you? im a small town in the borders and the electrical stability isnt very good at the best of times,i can make the house lights flicker using a 150a arc welder sometimes!
