Completely sensible the 4s apart from for anything involving motorway driving. Everything other than that (and their tendancy to rust) they are brilliant! Economical, reliable, good load space, and excellent handling on bumpy roads, and best of all they don't depreciate so you've got a couple of grand more than modern car owners every year to spend on tools and holidays. You know it makes sense.

Later ones will cruise all day at 80mph (flat out). My record for the 300 miles from Crewe to Dundee was set in a Renault 4 van at 4 3/4 hours. Slow a bit on hills, though I've just fitted a Hennessy Hot Up Kit to mine which improved things no end.
They are a bit noisy on motorways and for some reason I've never had one that could pick up Radio 4 very well. I once bought one that could only pick up French radio.

I think it came last. Some crazy bloke kept entering the 4 for a few years but hasn't tried recently. Must have been good fun.

Renault 4, aka goat transport!
We keep seeing a r4 estate knocking around here, its got the rear seats taken out and we always see it with a goat inside. I think it belongs to the local shepherd. Ive seen another with the interior gutted carrying a calf to the vets. Must have been quite claustrophobic inside
Im told shepherd bought it to replace the Citroen HY I have in my field waiting for my attention, and the rear of that got rotted out with sheep poo and straw too

Oh they also race em in the 2cv autocross meets. They have their own class, and mix it with the big roughie 2cv's too. I have a photo of 30 2cv's and r4's charging into the first corner taken at the local autocross meet. Its something you should experience at least once. Every year I get the urge to get a 2cv and strip it out and fit a cage
