I have ten days holiday to take between now and 1st jan of which i think i will get 4 off if i'm lucky. The good lady decided the kitchen floor needs replacing (only 3 years old) with a tiled version of the fake tile laminate currently down and would like it doing before we have 20 people round on Xmas day so started friday and have tomorrow to get it finished. Oh and new bathroom cabinets (again replacing 3 year old ones she never liked) too. Apparently it will keep me on the Nice list and the ESAB rebel under the tree won't vanish

not quite half way with the tiles and it will look the same as before when done !

And you can spend the next week kicking yourself you didn't do it sooner.

I've done this so many times, put something off because it will be a ball ache and then find it takes less than an hour.

or it will take 3 times as long and find you have not got the parts to fix it at the end

you should have spent at least three hours grumbling and pretending to struggle with the job...

done this twice over the last few months done the otherhalfs dad kitchen flooring got round there early 7,30 in the morning riped up and layed new underlay and then fitted new laminate all look great and cleaned up before 1pm before the mother in law came back she did not notice when we had a good look what flooring we layed it near looked the same it was only replaced as the old stuff was water damanged

last week i fitted a carpet in my daughters room we had it free 2 months ago but her carpet was not that bad but it was in the way of where the xmas tree was going to go so i took 2 hours emptying the room and then an hour to fit it and then 2 hours filling the room back up again 5 hours work and the carpet i layed down is the same colour as the one i took out but just a better quality carpet

I've been getting grief for months to caulk the cracks between the door casings and architraves. New house in Feb and builders won't deal with shrinkage. I've been ignoring it for ages but seeing as it is raining and the silicone gun fell out of the cupboard i thought I would do it. Literally 5 minutes a door and it looks a first class job. Should have done it ages ago

Just let it dry for 6-8 months and it should be ready to paint

If you used the decorators caulk or painters mate stuff you probably know that if you try to paint over it with water based paint before its fully hardened the paint will crack, despite the 'overpaintable in an hour' claims on the tube.
The way around this is to paint it first with an oil based under coat, let it dry overnight then apply the emulsion.

I did that with 'er indoors so she did all the painting from then on. She genuinely does a good job so I stuck to my story for 30 years. Then my mother needed her bathroom ceiling painting. I never gave it a thought and did the job.

A few days later 'er indoors asked me who painted at my mothers.. without a thought I said 'me.. looks ok I reckon'

I now need to do our living room, schoolboy error!

For a laugh, my dad painted a silhouette of a naked woman with her arms outstretched when we were repainting the bathroom, which I found hilarious at the time (age 15 or so). It wasn't until he put a coat over it that the lady was still visible as a faint outline. He wasn't asked to do any more painting after that incident!

I reckon I may soon be in the same boat. One drawback of working at the same place as your wife, when you're responsible for decorating.

It was definitely different. The brush pulled off half the paint it applied, so there were some good streaks in the finish.

yes i hate painting but the last time the other half painted was the back of a rad i was doing the front she was doing the back i was halfway through she said its done i said it cant be im only half way through went an had a look runs every where i try to pull them out but half of them where dry and would not brush in i had to wait 3 days for it to to dry solid and then sand the lot and then paint it again from scrach

and add to that i spend days doing the prep work making it all look great only to have a half assed paint job no thanks will do it my self and have it done right even if i dont like doing it
