Isle of Man accomodation

Hi all,

After missing last year's TT races due to work commitments, me and a few friends have booked our flights for next year (No bikes this time round . Can anyone help with accommodation as I have tried the homestay page, called pretty much all the B&B's that show up on internet searches and the isle of man website to find that their all booked up!!!

There are 6 of us going so 3 twin rooms would be needed but if it came to it we wouldn't mind bunking up in two rooms. We're going on the 30th May until the 2nd June if this helps and don't mind staying anywhere on the island, just so long as we get there.

Oh, and camping is out of the question cos one of the lads is a snob!

They all tend to get booked up pretty early to be honest, most people book for next year as soon as TT has finished.

If no to camping then that reduces things dramatically as there are some very good campsites that are also right on the course so you can practically watch from your tent.

The only thing I can suggest for B&B's would be down south of the island (Port Erin, Port St Mary, Castletown) as the ones around Douglas & Onchan will most likely be booked up.

BUT bear in mind you will have to travel in/out of Douglas or the north if you stay down the south of the island and the roads are a nightmare during TT and especially during practice or race time when the course is shut.

Do the residents of the Isle of Man (apart from Jeremy Clarkson) not get ****** off with the races and the disruption they bring twice a year ?

Thanks for the replies guys. I have booked for the following year while I have been there in the past but missing last year scuppered my plans for doing the same. I have been lucky enough to stay in Douglas every year but think a change in location would be a nice change of scenery plus we could explore different parts of the island that we have probably ignored in the past. We're flying over this time and renting cars so it will be completely different straight away as I always got up at 5am to get a few laps in before breakfast when I went on my bike.

Ronan, im sure many residents do get annoyed and I have seen many IOM reg plates getting off the ferry at liverpool and heysham probably to get away from it all but the places ive been on the island, wheather it be for food, drink or a coffee at the calf of man every local resident have been very welcoming and enjoy the races.

PS I have to say that im looking forward to eating in the hop garden and getting my dose of fish and chips from the chippy in Parliament square

I went it 05' with another couple they were skint so had to look out of Douglas, wifey found a god bothering hotel in Port Erin. 80quid per night, opposed to 100 even for a flea pit.

However for £114 we could have stayed 4star in the Best western in Douglas. It was a royal PITA relying on buses, for getting about on a night. (a lot of people rent their full houses out so go on holiday for the TT)

possibly, but the income from the fans is significant, and most true manxmen( and manxladies of course!) are proud of the world famous unique races the Island provides.
The TT are not the only races, in addition there is the Manx Grand Prix and now the classic http://www.iomtt.com/Classic-TT/About.aspx.
And the races are like winter-you know its coming so you prepare for it.

If you are renting a car this time then staying down South could be a decent option, or up north in Ramsey as the you can watch the bikes coming into Ramsey during the races, Peel in the west is another option - good fish and chips and ice cream there and some cracking sunsets if the weather is good.

Locals are mixed towards the TT, some hate it and leave the island as soon as it starts, whereas others love the atmosphere that the TT festival brings.

The main hassle is the road closures and having to go via the Access Road to get to/from home and work, makes your journey at least twice as long. And there are always a number of inconsiderate bikers who overtake at any opportunity causing other road users to have to avoid hitting them etc as they treat the course as a race track during the entire 2 weeks.

Don't forget the Manx Rally I went many times to see the fast tarmac stages.
