Is this possible to weld together?

Hi everyone

My beloved belt has snapped and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Is it possible to be welded? Or maybe soldered?

I sent these pics to a belt fixing company but they weren't sure how to help unfortunately

Any advice would be great thanks...

Unfortunately the section that goes through the leather has snapped but if I can find a piece that fits could I weld both ends on to the main buckle? Unsure what the material is but it is quite heavy

I think it would be better to drill it, then fit a brass pin where the broken part is. Then you could close up the hole with a little bit of silver solder if you wanted. Or just fit the pin with a little locktite and file it down. Blue line is the drill line.

Doing that the brass pin could be a little thicker than the last one. Meaning it should last longer. As it looks like the old pin broke in the middle.

Yeah that's what I was thinking but would it hold with the tightening of the belt or just bend and fail.

Either solder but that will require removing some of the finnish or something like a friction pin, drill right the way through, insert pin and rivet both ends but not sure there is enough meat on both ends to drill.

Might be able to attach new pin by solder, underside, straight across, again not sure how strong a fix that might be.

Bend up a stainless wire in a 'D' shape to go through the leather and the pin and behind the buckle, and then bond the decorative buckle to it. That will take the load off the broken buckle to avoid a repeat.

I like the above repair tactic, definitely would give that a go (or even insert an old buckle, with yours glued on top).

Or, You could try asking a Jewellery or Spectacle Repair specialist if they could fix/zap it with their Micro-Tig machine.
I had a titanium frame repair done several years ago & is still perfect.

You'd still have to remove & replace the 4 rivets to re-attach to the buckle.

But a new belt might be a lot cheaper... (?)

The problem is most of them belt buckles are monkey metal full of crap. If it's Zamac/Zinc alloy forget welding, soldering, anything involving heat.

You might microtig it cheaply, a good jewellery repair company will have one. You could laser weld it, be pricey though and they're few and far between.

Soldering a brass or steel pin behind the buckle would be best if the material
is suitable but you may lose the patina.

depends on what the belt is used for

unlike men who tighten on belts the ladies dont to a degree

used for fashion so not truly tight
used to pull clothing together dress reference

yep, them lumiweld rods can work but you're about 2 seconds away from complete disaster when the filler finally wicks in

You could drill further back, a bit thicker ?? then a small roll pin.
The 2 horns left wont be a problem
