Can't seem to find what the maximum drilling depth would be but for M.M. seems to be a decent piece of kit?

Probably, but why don't you do what I did and get a secondhand Meddings for £10 off ebay??

Got the similar model but with the round work table and less speeds.

The quill travel is about 2"-3".
What is also handy is the MT2, i got an adaptor from MM so broaching cutters can be used.....much better than swapping drills.
The tube on which it is all mounted on does flex a bit when you put a bit of force on the handles

Ive got a draper one very similar, I stopped the column from flexing by filling it with Wickes quick setting postcrete,

Tig paul........ That sounds a handy way of sorting it, i was contemplating welding the top of the tube to a bracket and bolting it to the wall.

Mick, do you really need a wet table? I have a Clarke floorstander with a dry table and it does me fine. The equivalent dry one to the one in your link is 20 odd quid cheaper .

I'd buy an industrial one -- decent make -- off eBay, etc. Only the motor is likely to die.

My issue with the MM ones is that the castings are not of great quality. Compared to "real" ones, they're pretty shoddily made.

Fingers99..... you're right there the quill on mine had a fair bit of play in it right from new

Not bad with drills that self centre but annoying with holesaws and broaching cutters.

Meddings, Progress, Archdale. Old solid, built like brick sh*t houses & run for ever. Normaly 3ph but motor change easy.

you could do far worse than buy one of these beastys, I have a bank of 6, quick change tool holders, quill feed on one............and they will last forever.......excellent, I can run a 2" bit nahh bother on the slow geared head......

you would have to run a phase converter tho, If your not on 3 ph.........
