Sorry for the multiple posts, an issue trying to post from my phone.
I thought ifor kept an owner database too. I'm sure my mum was asked for the trailer Id and who she was (ie more than just for model number and postage) when she had to order spares for hers?
Ps I've got an arrangement to go and see it tomorrow.
I'm thinking I should put the hand brake on and give it a bit of a tug to see if the brakes work, but the only way I can really check the suspension is by looking at the tyres? It's not like I can load it up there and then.
Thank you. I suspect I'll only be able to test on rough ground, so will probably not be able to generate heat in the bearings unless it's properly stuffed.
With regard to "tows straight" - you mean doesn't pull out to the side all the time? Again, maybe not one I can test without going on the road. Possibly the seller will accompany me for a test, but I can't see him just letting me sail off otherwise.
Electrics are, I'm told, not working, so that is one less thing to test.
It's a tired looking trailer, but it's priced about right. If it clearly needs new suspension units etc though they're so expensive that I may as well spend double on the trailer and I'd probably still be up.
You can get a shiny gd84 for 8 or 900 ish (used) and this one is around 400. So I'm not expecting it to be perfect at all (as can be seen from the photos).
If dipping costs, say, 150 or 200, and a new ply base 100, it would be a resonable deal. But if there's much more wrong, it would be cheaper just to buy a better one to start with.
You're probably right. I'll play it by ear. I'm not dead set on buying or anything. It's just local enough for me to drop by when I have to go to town tomorrow, so I'll see.
I had a 4 wheel version which looked very similar to that and a 2500 x 1250 sheet was a tight fit in it so do not put one in flat or you will struggle to remove it, don't ask me how I know
Best is to put in some battens of wood from the top to the diagonal sides bottom and rest the sheets diagonally and you will have no problem removing them.
Lack of plate just means its harder to figure out what the max carrying weight is, I've been told if you get stopped and it looks overloaded or dangerously loaded they'll use anything to work out the max weight.
On my trailer before I put a plate on it would have been the max weight the tyres are rated for - 900kg each and at 1800kg the pair that's more than my car can tow.
