If you manage to fix it, make sure you can 'un-fix' it easily invade he comes round to the idea of letting it go but wants to check what's wrong with it. Also why don't you take him up in the offer of the BMW as long as he throws in the welder for a good price. That way he gets room in his workshop when you take the BMW and he gets more cash than he wanted for it. You could always sell the BMW and the welder and buy one that works if you have no joy fixing this one!

Its along Lancaster road, down from the salford royal, lightoaks its called.

The problem is the BMW is too good for me to sell on once I done it up, plus I'm only staying in the uk for another 9-10 months tops so theres no really point in me pouring money into another car for such a short period of time.

A lot of workshops with the old boys in them have all made their living through what they do, which they learnt on the job when they were younger. Most might not be able to tell you exactly what the knobs on the welding machines do down to a tee, but they manage to get along with using them day in and out.

Some a rather reluctant to learn new ways about their job too.

Oh yes! Gotchya now ...hey wait...I'm NVQ..lol At least I'm better than the time served mechanics when it comes to welding...

Yes, some by CAME and others. Back then, virtually all gate stuff was Italian, even if it said Bosch on the box. Single biggest problem was voltage surges, usually from lightning strikes
Their were frequent changes of design, the biggest when they switched to electronic clutches on the ones for hydraulic actuators.
