easy pal, we were only general comments, we could soon chastise most DIY welders who try and give advice right or wrong, with that ethos....

It is far easier to say nothing than to start typing a load of incorrect facts. And I to am not perfect but just happen to know my way around heating systems just trying to help the guy out

If somebody makes the mistake or gives wrong information they are not doing it on purpose so just tell them the proper way if you know there's no need for jibes

My point exactly if you are not qualified to quote just say nothing. Afterall we are talking about electrical items here that if not treated with a understanding and respect someone could get seriously hurt

I'm not gonna get into flameing as its not the wish of the moderators, or forums owner, cant see how a non specific awnser to check the motorized isn't stuck will hurt anyone......

Comments like your last couple help know one, it just puts the heckles up, to your example theres only a few of us who can comment on welding.......

If you wish to start flaming members, find somewhere else to do it hey..... this forum aims to help people

I am not here to flame anyone. And as you state this forum is here to help people well posting wrong imformation is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard All I was doing was pointing out that the imformation given was wrong and inaccurate.

No one was giving incorrect facts, many of the replies to Jacks question (including my one) asked for more information, some info came from Jack about boiler make for example. Basically there were replies regarding motorised valves, thermostats ect. Now if Jack does not know what a M/V valve is, I know he would be intelligent to google M/V. From there a more info, possibly including a pic or two would reveal what a M/W looks like. If nothing else, at least what Jack will be able to recognise various parts of a heating system. This is how we learn, we ask questions, some will be positive from forum members with a lot of knowledge on heating systems. Negative replies, although given in good faith (such as my replies) are still contributing to the learning curve.

You have a lot to learn M4RK. Oh, btw, what is your trade, just in case I'm stuck???

Why is it whatever Forum you join you always get those that dont like to be put right. I have done no wrong and given good advise only to be shoot down by those that dont have a clue. I guess it the world we live in. And I will not stop useing this Forum as I do belive there is a lot of good advise to had from members here that know what they are talking about. And I am a electrical engineer and think you might like to have a look here before giving more electrical advise.

And I am sure every person on this forum has paid a part P (Hi Vis jacket wearing, hard hat, goggles, clipboard grasping etc.) government approved electrician a few quid to install an extra plug socket in the house, garage etc.

Wife is a degree qualified electrical engineer (mechatronics) and has an almost completed Phd in Acoustics (Speaker designer)- according to that law she isn't qualified enough to put any sockets in our house.

There was nothing written in the posts to suggest we were experts on the matter, just pointers, best to have a google on something like that and see if it comes up trumps, however someone with mechanical knowledge, tends to work there way through the problem then hits trumps, Its not rocket science.......

Don't hide behind part P regs, what makes you think we don't know????, theres been enough written on here about it and we have a couple of resident sparks on here, that fortunately don't share your same ethos......, I could quite happily tell you you have no business welding, what qua ls do you have???? codings, knowledge of metallurgy, and engineering experience, have you done abrasives tests? what about handlers, slinging, pickers..... the list goes on, I take it you are then infarct DIY welding in which case you have no business to do so.....

Are you saying I shouldn't make a suggestion in your paint thread? I've got a fairly good idea of the problem and it could save you lots of heartache. Though I'm not certain I'd be right.

That is exactly what you are saying isn't it.

EDIT: (OOPS - it was someone else's paint thread - similar username that was all. So I posted my guess and struck lucky - it was right, so another member has been saved the heartache I've been through. Which proves my point probably. )

This is largely a DIY forum and hence a lot of the members are DIYers. Between us we generally muddle through. There will be many posts made with good intentions that won't be good answers to the problem. The trick if you spot one of them is to post what you think might be a better answer, not to suggest the member shouldn't have posted in the first place.

That helps the original poster, and it's how we work on this forum. Not doing so tends to result in flame wars that help the original poster even less as the thread gets closed.

So can we please return to the topic.
