Is there an easy way to find the owner / renter of a house

I've been asking for the last 3 months, the renting resident about their collapsing fence, which they really would not appreciate our dog escaping into, they have little kids etc and its making me worry.
Part of it is now at 45deg collapsed into their side.

The monosyllabics that live there keep saying they have told the agent but won't let on who owns the house or who is the agent, as I would like to get in touch direct to get them to sort it.

the agent wont let on who the owner is thats the idea of having one .dunno how you you would find out who the agent is though

whats the house kept like the renters them selves ?

if untidy they prob not said any thing/ or worried and theres not much you can do

you dont have to replace a fence theres no legal requirement the only thing (from a google) unless it unsafe the council will get involved and even then they will prob just say make it safe that could mean remove it its then safe and cant hurt any one

if you have a dog and want it to stay in your garden and they have not got one you might have to ask see if you can ask there permision and pay your self to put it back up or if that fails put a fence on your side ?

Searching the address will likely bring up the listing from when it was let, that would give you the agents details

@Gragson , it would appear the neighbours albeit tenants,agent or landlord don’t actually care whether there is a fence there or not. As the dogs escaping would be your responsibility put up a hideous temporary fence along the boundary on your side made up of everything and anything inc car doors, wriggly tin, pallets and chicken wire.That should stir up an emotion.

Regardless of who owns the fence, it's the dog owners responsibility to stop the dog straying.

My neighbours erected a new fence to contain theirs because of this.

Avoid all boundry disputes if you can.

I think you will come up against GDPR, in that they can't tell you anything that will identify an individual without a good reason. I don't think a wonky fence is a sufficiently good reason.

Land registry will likely be a waste of time & money if the owners sold their last house to buy this place, moved in then moved on (or got loved up and moved in with the new love of their life) and rented this out.

I tried to buy a flat once. Share of free hold, rather than leasehold.

It fell though, as the company that owned the freehold (which was then owned by the freeholders) had fallen into disrepair, and the vendors couldn't get hold of the other freeholders (overseas, buy to let owners) to re-instate the holding company, to enable the sale.

Many landlords want nothing to do with the property other than the income stream, and any avoidable costs will be avoided, irrespective of your ability to contact them, or otherwise.


It would, im sure, be easier to just apply fencing yourself, be it pretty fencing, or the mad-max effort that Bob suggests!

Land registry will show you the owner, but many companies assuming its one will just have an accountants address or holding company its worth a try though. I do feel you may well end up just fixing it

If the current fence is on the boundary and you put a fence up on your side your neighbour can remove their fence and gain a strip of land. I would put up a temporary or malisciously ugly fence up just to keep control of the dog.

Regardless of who owns the fence, it's the dog owners responsibility to stop the dog straying.

its your dog and its up to you to contain it on your property

forget the fence its just a boundary touch it and you can be made to repair all of it which you dont want

even if its a solid brick wall and you have a big dog that can get over the wall it is your responsibility to make sure it cant with a higher fence on your side of the wall

so erect a fence to cover the hole and call it right up against the fence itself

weigh up the options...

pay a few quid and fix the fence, or potentially face a claim that your dog has escaped into their garden, attacked someone and is now being put down, because with quite a few breeds now they wont even give you a chance to the show the dog wouldnt harm anyone, they will take the side of the 'victim' and destroy the dog to avoid another outcry about dangerous breeds...my friend lost a rottweiler this way...some guy claimed the dog bit him when all it did was sort of half jump and have a sniff...by the time police came for a statement he had a gash on his arm, they confiscated the dog and the next morning he had been notified the dog was dead. at that point, it doesnt matter who was right or wrong, the dog is gone

i have always had large breeds, currently a french mastiff and id be fixing the fence myself.

Avoid all boundry disputes if you can.

I agree, try fix disputes with 6 cans of larger over a table talking or a straightner on the cobbles...dont ever go legal or it will strip your bank of your savings and no real winners.
