Is primer a must?

Hi all, i have just taken in some rims and they could do with some new paint, the old paint isnt that bad so i was wondering can i just key the wheels, smooth over and shoot with 2k, or will it be better to key it and prime it. thanks H

always better to take your time & do it properly IMO

if you can sand out the damage without getting loads of bare metal then i dont see a problem with going straight to paint

yeh i wont have to go bare metal on these at all. was just curious to see if the paint will stick properly and last.

yep a keyyed surface is fine ..no probs at all

Just make sure you de-grease the wheels thoroughly-use panel wipe after keying!
