is my air fed mask setup ok?

hi folks, i have just spent a small fortune on all the gear to run a air fed mask. can you please confirm its safe to spray now. the compressor is a brand new sip 20 cfm,i have a brand new 15m hose from compressor to my 3 stage filter, then a 10metre breathable airhose from 3 stage filter to the carbon filter on the belt, the mask is a Sperian Air Fed Mask Respirator Airvisor 2. what psi should i run the mask at, the alarm goes off at around 6 bar so i put it to 8 and its fine, is that too much pressure? i know it sounds daft having a normal air hose going to a breathable but i was told it didnt matter as long as its clean and i already had it split brand new unopened.
let me know if im ok to go spray 2k.

I would say you're spot on, I do believe the air fed mask will have it's own regulator, so higher pressure shouldn't be a problem. Don't forget Tyvek/paper overalls, and some rubber gloves (less messy with gloves)

And I must say it's really nice to see someone taking on board the safety aspect, and getting properly geared up. And if anyone takes the "P" out of you for looking like a space explorer, take them to take a hike!!!!

thanks for the reply, i dont spray all the time but im much happier now that i know im 100% fine when spraying. as they say you only get 1 set of lungs. its alot of money but in my opinion its worth it, 2k is horrible stuff

The only thing I can't see mentioned in your original post is if you have a filter regulator before your 3 stage filter bank, if not just get a cheap one as that will help prolong the life of your 3 stage as the first filter will be about 5 microns and will clog up quickly.

forgot to put in the post that before the 3 stage filter i have a cheap ebay spray gun water trap filter, the type with the valve at the bottom to drain it, will that be ok?

Personally I would have thought having any form of regulator before the air fed and gun could possibly cause you issues with the amount of air delivered, any regulation of air for the gun should be at the gun.

Yes adding another Filter/Reg will sap a small amount of air delivered but it is needed to protect the fine filters of the 3 stage (I have a 20 micron before mine). You can leave that reg wide open if you like it's just there as a trap and then set the pressure required with the reg on the gun.

I personally have two regs before the final two stages of filtration which means I can take down the line pressure down in stages a bit like you have two stage regs on a oxy/acet welding set for smoother flow, just have a T piece or a gun reg to check the pressure is high enough at the wall to give you sufficient pressure at the gun with trigger pulled fully back and the mask on.

i think if you have a coalescent filter as the last of the 3 then you are okay.
