Is it ok to prime over 400 grit?

Not wanting to have to fill too deep scratches I have done a lot of priming over hand sanded 400 grit. I often hand sand primer with 400 grit and if I need more primer over uneven areas I prime over the 400.

This has worked ok for me so far. This time I’m going to be using a da. They seem to sand smoother. Will 400 be far too smooth this time. Should I use 240 or 320 etc instead? Thanks.

240 is normally fine for primer on a da. If younimly have 400 use that then go over by hand after for a bit of key

Thanks. I’ll grab some 240 grit. Ill probably buy some 400 and 600 grit for sanding the primer then use my 1000 grit just before basecoat. My sander has just packed up. Plunger was sticking on so sander kept running. Now when plunger is pressed it won’t run at all. I’ve put a fair bit of air tool oil through it as well as I’ve been using it. No difference. Just been on the phone to Sealey. Advice I was given was to try some wd40 through it. Hasn’t worked, so it’s back to the shop where I bought it then back to Sealey for repair/replacement. I can’t win with this car. I feel like just selling the car as it is or selling all my kit and taking the car and paint to a bodyshop and paying them to do it. My Mrs has had enough of it over the years.

I've saw DA marks in too many respray jobs... I wouldn't leave it at 240 grit! 320 or 400 will be fine

id prime over 240 if a whole panel...if blending into a spot repair do the edges with 400
