If thats the sum total of the spoils for the footings laid to the side I would stop them, cant be more than a few inches of concrete down there and that wont support a wall that high.

If the foundation is under the wall, does it make too much difference as to if the wall us central to the foundation?

I'm sure it would if the structure above was heavy enough that you needed the compressive strength of the concrete, but that really isn't the case here.

All you're wanting the foundation to do is stay in one place, so the wall does not fall.

Is the off center loading of the wall going to tilt the foundation? Depends on its depth, I guess....

Ps I just zoomed in, and it looks like the existing wall was built after the path, and actually overlaps the path.

So the new work probably matches the old work?

And the old work hasnt kept the wall straight! : /

It looks like the old wall wants removing and rebuilding, not extending!

I did this a couple of weeks back -

The whole idea is that the brickwork looks a bit rubbish and old, but is structurally good (although i realise a lot of the joints are inline - like i say, its supposed to look as shifty as the rest of the place!)

(the slate on the corner is just placed there for the photo!)

My point is it not that hard to make things look old but still actually be new, and not on a wonk.

No that's just some mud. There's a fair bit of soil dug out, its deep enough but not in the right place.

i dont know if hes done it is there a possablity hes left the flag sones there and just dug out half a foot under neath the flag stones as not to disturb the walk way so all you have to do is cut the stones and lay the wall

i know this is unlightly but could be ?

Offset footings get exspensive.

But garden wall wouldn't sweat it

I asked that but no, the concrete only goes a little under the slabs.
I see people are talking about off set footings etc and that would be one thing but if you can't see it in the photo the bricks would overhang the footing if lined up with the existing wall!

Are you keeping it a 9"wall. Run a Header course on the bottom?

This is not an "offset" footing, offset footings are a lot thicker and deeper than standard, the load bearing wall on an offset footing is also a lot further inboard. What we have seen here is neither and is not fit for purpose, personally I wouldn't waste the bricks on it. Each to their own

Offset like that is fine for that application, it's not heavily loaded, so as long as the foundation is of adequate strength and depth it is ok.

Unless you asked for the path to be lifted that's probably how I would do it... also, if it's a boundary wall you need the land owners permission to extend foundation under their land
