Is a scissor lift-style bench crazy for a wood lathe?

So following my inheritance of a wood lathe, as detailed here: https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/now-i-have-a-wood-lathe-in-bits.139269/ - I now have the problem of figuring out where and how to mount it.

My (single car sized) garage is already full with zero spare wall space, and the lathe is the 36" version so probably around 4ft long in total.

I do have a heavy duty wooden table / kart that I could fix it to, which is wheeled, so can be moved around - question #1, assuming the wheels are lockable, which they are, is a wheeled trolley a totally stupid / dangerous idea?

Then I was thinking would it be possible to mount it to a (cheap!) scissor stand type contraption so that I can store it under the fixed shelving while it's not in use?

Any other inventive ideas?

I reckon it needs to pretty well attached to something solid especially if you're thinking of bowls & larger diameter pieces.
If you have storage beneath the bench & use a scissor lift, are you able to slide it on& off the bench top?
Bolts straight through or into threaded inserts would do, then unbolt & lower on scissor lift to reclaim the bench top?

I didn't bother bolting mine down, I just pushed it out of the way when requiring the bench space.
You can clearly see the foot whilst turning this bowl.

Make a mini shed for it in a corner of the garden. If it is insulated, ventilated and perhaps even heated with a greenhouse style anti frost thing, it should be fine. Give it folding roof/sides and as you use it, you won't even have to clean up. All the wood chippings just end up in the garden...

A scissor lift would depend on how sturdy & stable the unit is. Considering what you'll likely be turning, a slight imbalance can quickly turn into a major wobble.

my myford wood one is mounted on a very narrow wooden cupboard which although very old is solid and works perfect , motor housed inside one part and rest is usefull storage , when I say narrow its probably no more than 12 or 14" depth , with a few fixings to back wall it does nt move , cant send pics as its rather buried at moment.

If you value you other stuff in the garage have a separate shed for it and the rest of the wood bothering equipment, sawdust will get everywhere.

my medium size Poolewood lathe sits on a heavy steel frame with braced and angled legs.....making the lathe double it's width.....
it gets at least 200kgs of balast underneath to stop it walking and damp down the vibration.....
it's on a concrete floor....
if ur making pens it don't matter but start getting lumpy firewood blanks then the vibs start....

look at table saw stands or mitre saw stands they can be used

Yeah - good point. Having watched a few vids now on wood turning, this is yet another +1 for having it on wheels so I can move it to outside the garage when I'm using it.
Sadly, as we're now standing at one garage and three sheds, the wife isn't going to stand for yet another shed...

A mate does a lot of woodwork (75% is sanding so sawdust everywhere), he used to work outside until a troublesome neighbour several doors away complained about the noise.
Now he has a dedicated shed, the belt sanded is on a bench surrounded by a removable screen made from perspex ( 4x sheets hung from the ceiling when in use), he also has a decent shop vac with a big bore hose that pulls from behind the sander to keep dust from the other parts of the shed - it all works well for him.

Another vote for using outdoors. Maybe bury the (motorised) scissor lift in a discreet area of the garden, cover with a fake grass trap door and have it lift out of the ground at the push of a button when required. Sorry, been watching too much Furze.

Seriously though, I’m thinking about fixing mine securely inside the shed facing out and having a solid door / flap arrangement so I can stand outside while turning and have the benefit of keeping the machine inside and not having to drag it about. Does that make sense? Probably not.

If you get into it you’ll gather a lot of (expensive) tools and accessories you will want to have easily to hand, something else to add to the conundrum.

The sort of "shed" I mean would just barely be big enough to house the lathe and would unfold to open up in use (or just have a big removable lid).
