Hello there,
I'm looking into having some heavy duty iron railings fabricated. I'm struggling to decide whether to have them galvanised and then painted or galvanised and then power coated.
From what I've read so far, although powder coating can look good, if it's chipped or scratched, moisture will then get underneath the powder coating and rust the steel from underneath the coating and this is harder to treat once noticed. Is this still the case if powder coat is on top of galv? Obviously with paint, the affected area can be dressed and repainted relatively easily.
The total length of the railings is about 18metres and thus not cheap to have fabricated and I want them to look good and last as long as possible.
I was initially going to go with galv + powder coating then after reading more info I'm starting to think that gala + paint would be a better option.
If I choose the paint option the railings will be delivered to me galvanised and I'll be applying the paint myself.
I'm interested in hearing what you experienced guys think and would advise
Many Thanks
